What a Baby Milestone session feels like for 6-9 months old | Caterham photography
There’s something really special about the milestone stage ( between 6 to 9 months old) .
Your baby isn’t brand new anymore… but they’re not running away from you just yet. They sit proudly. They giggle at everything. They look at you like you’re their whole world.
And most parents walk into a milestone session feeling just a little unsure.
Will my baby cooperate?
What if they’re clingy?
What if they cry?
What if I don’t know what to do?
So let me tell you what it actually feels like to have a Little Sitter session with me.
It feels slower than you expect
There’s no rushing.
No pressure for your baby to perform. No expectation that they sit perfectly or smile on command.
We move at their pace. If they need a cuddle, they get one. If they want to explore, we let them. If they need a break, we take it.
Parents often say, “Oh… this feels easy.” That’s always my goal. My Little Sitter session are only 30 min, short and sweet so they don’t get bored or upset.
It will be funny
When you walk into the studio, everything is ready. Soft light, minimal decor, wooden toys. A space that feels warm and welcoming rather than overwhelming.
You don’t need to apologise if they’re shy. You don’t need to bring anything except the essentials. You get to sit close, watch them, and just be present. You will be on the floor next to me, looking at them, so they look back at you and towards the light. And that’s when the real moments happen.
The sudden bursts of laughter, the way they look back at you for reassurance, their giggles, their little wave at you.
It feels reassuring
Many mums worry their baby won’t “behave.” But there is no behaving in a milestone session.
There is only your baby being exactly who they are right now.
Some are full of giggles.
Some are thoughtful observers.
Some stay close to mum.
Every personality is welcome. And when you realise you don’t have to control the session… you relax. And when you relax, your baby does too.
Their cuteness preserved forever
This stage passes quietly. There’s no big celebration like a first birthday. No obvious marker like a newborn stage.
It just slips by. One day they’re sitting and reaching for you… and the next they’re pulling themselves up and moving away.
Milestone sessions are about honouring that in between.
Not because everything is perfect. But because it’s a season of them you will want to remember. That’s my favourite age for Lily and I cherish my photos very much !
If you’d like to chat about whether your baby is ready, I’m always happy to guide you.
Because this season may feel ordinary right now… but one day, it won’t.
