In-home intimate breastfeeding session | Purley Newborn photographer

Why in-home sessions work so well for any baby

Before launching a new type of session, I always do 1 or 2 model calls to test it first. I like to see how the session flows, test the poses I have in my head or on my moodboard and see if I like the results and if it’s easy to edit and reproduce.

This session was one of my model call for an in-home baby photoshoot, focusing on breastfeeding.

It was a beautiful Mum and her 3 months old baby boy.

Testing different rooms in the house

When doing an in-home photoshoot, it is key to have an idea beforehand of which rooms we want to shoot in. Ideally we want a big window and enough light for the camera. I like to recommend at least baby’s nursery, your master bedroom and your living room, as the 3 key rooms to capture your meaningful moments.

For this session, I shot in the guest room and the master bedroom. 2 beautiful rooms full of light and natural decor. Yes we want a minimal decor too, so the focus will remain on the Mum and baby. So if you can before your session, tidy up a little bit to remove all chunky or unnecessary stuff. Think cables, extension plugs, fans, cartons and anything on the bedside tables.

What to expect

The session is slow-paced and relaxed. We go at baby’s flow. We work around baby’s naps, cuddles, nappy change and whatever your baby will need in the moment.

I will gently guide you through the session with simple prompt and poses. I let the moment unravelled and I like to capture the in-between moments. We will focus on your connection, your love and the way you look at each other. To capture this very special moment between you two.

Breastfeeding moments

For this session, I wanted to capture specifically some photos of breastfeeding. We can capture it in so many beautiful ways, whether you want to show some skin or not really. We can make it very discreet or we can focus on it and take videos, in case you want to remember the way they latch on you and the way they looked at you during the feed.

This Mum was very happy to show some skin and beautifully capture the intimate moments with her baby boy.

Relaxed, Natural and Meaningful

Across the 2 rooms we used, we shot some simple and natural poses between Mum and baby. We changed outfits too, to bring more variety in the gallery. We had a chat too because I like to ask you questions about your motherhood journey and how you are experiencing it. It’s great to talk to another Mum and relate on some topics.

In-home photoshoot are an easy experience for new parents as you don’t need to worry about anything. I will come to you and bring everything we need.
