From Newborn to Sitter… Why Baby Milestone Photos Matter

One of the most special parts of my job is seeing families come back through different stages of their baby’s first year.

I often get asked by Clients what is the next best age to capture your little baby, and for me, the most favourite age would be the sitter age.

A few months ago, this beautiful little girl was curled up sleepily in my studio as a tiny newborn of 18 days old, fitting perfectly in her parents’ hands, sleeping through gentle cuddles and wrapped poses.

And recently, I welcomed her back again, this time at 8 months old for her Little Sitter session.

The difference between those two sessions was incredible.

Gone was the sleepy newborn stage… replaced by big curious eyes, cheeky smiles, tiny toes grabbing everything, and a little personality already shining through.

And honestly, this is exactly why milestone sessions matter so much.

Why is the sitter age so beautiful to capture ?

The first year changes so quickly. When parents think about documenting their baby’s first year, they often focus on:
• newborn photos
• first birthday or cake smash session

But somewhere in the middle… there is this beautiful stage that quietly gets overlooked.

The sitter stage.

Usually around 7 to 9 months, babies are beginning to sit independently, interact, smile, laugh, and respond to the world around them in such a beautiful way.

They are still wonderfully baby like, with soft features, little rolls, and cuddly expressions, but their personality is suddenly so present.

It’s one of my favourite ages to photograph.

The perfect stage between newborn and first birthday

At around 8 months old, babies are often:
• sitting confidently
• smiling and engaging
• fascinated by everything around them
• full of expressions and interaction

Unlike newborn sessions, where the focus is on softness and sleepiness, sitter sessions feel playful, relaxed, and full of connection.

There’s no pressure for babies to perform or pose perfectly. We simply follow their pace and capture them exactly as they are in this stage of life. I will give them some natural wooden little toys to play with.

And because they change so much during the first year, these sessions become even more meaningful when you look back on them later.

Watching their personality appear

One of my favourite moments during this session was seeing how much this little girl had changed since her newborn photos.

At her newborn session, everything felt delicate and tiny.

Now… she was sitting proudly, giving the sweetest little smiles, reaching for her parents, reacting to my voice, and showing those little expressions that already feel so uniquely her.

These are the moments parents often don’t realise they’ll miss one day.

The chunky legs.
The wispy baby hair.
The way they sit with their toes curled under them.
The gummy smiles before all the teeth arrive.

This stage passes quietly… but so quickly.

When should you book a sitter session?

Little Sitter sessions are usually best booked between 7 and 9 months old, once your baby is confidently sitting independently but not yet walking.

If you’re unsure about timing, you can always get in touch and I’ll happily guide you.

I will open spaces every month ( at least 1 space per month). Spaces are limited though, so be sure to book early enough.

I welcome families from Warlingham, Croydon, Caterham, Purley and surrounding Surrey and Kent areas for baby milestone photography.

How do I book ?

Simple and easy, you can book yourself online directly on my website. Go on the Little Sitter page, select a date that works for you, pay online and voila ! Easy peasy. You will then receive your Welcome guide with the next steps.

You will be able to access my baby wardrobe, and we can have up to 3 outfits change with your little one ( reminder that this session is exclusively for your baby, there won’t be time for family portrait)

Ready to book ? Go this way
