What to expect from a photoshoot with Claire Dubost Photography ?

No posing…

Well, very limited number of poses because I like to capture the in-between moments. This is the best way for your photos to look genuine and authentic. They will reflect your personality and YOUR baby as they are truly.

At some point in the session I will ask you all to look at my camera, this is what I call the photo for the grand-parents !

My sessions are all baby-led and we will just have a lot of fun.

Newborn and Maternity sessions are a bit more posed due to their nature. But my aim will always to capture your authentic self and show the essence of your family.

If you are looking for a photographer doing 1000 poses, then we are not a match, as this is not my style at all. I don’t want to rush you into doing a millions of poses. We can create variety in your gallery with minimal poses but different angles. It means I will turn around you and also move backwards and forwards, as I take photos.

…But I will always give direction

Don’t worry, I don’t expect you to give me the poses and head movements of a Vogue model on a cat walk ! I will not let you be a statue neither. I will encourage natural poses and movements via games, tickle, singing and dancing.

We will create a natural looking gallery with lot of different poses and angles.

When I pose you, I might move you and touch your hair if I need to do even some slight adjustments. I want the light to be perfect so you have the most beautiful photos.

Energy…

If you come for a Baby milestone, Smash cake or a Maternity session with an older toddler, we will have a lot of energy. It’s all about being silly, letting your kids be free and wild, and not take anything seriously. I like to play games, tickle, sing, dance, anything to make your kids laugh.

It might feel like chaos but this is when we capture the best images because it’s your baby being a baby, being them.

Try not to get frustrated with your children. Let them be little. Let them relax, feel safe and see how fun the experience is. I find that it works better if you don't ask them to join in if they don't want to.

Please don't tell them to smile or say "cheese". They will join in their own time and I have a few tricks up my sleeve (some requiring the help of your partner)!

Sometimes, it will feel like a workout too ! Don’t go to the gym the day before and do an arm session, because I will ask you to throw your kids in the air or do the airplane with them !

…or Slow pace

If you come for a Newborn session (or a Maternity session with just your partner), the pace will be much slower and relaxed.

The room will be heated for the baby to be comfortable, and I always have relaxing music in the background ( I had some Dad fall asleep on my sofa once !).

My session are baby-led, which means I will follow the lead of your baby and how he/she feels. I will never force baby into a pose.

I usually ask you to feed baby before arrival, so baby is ready to be changed in the outfit of your choice and we can start with baby’s portrait on my bean bag. We will then move on to poses with the parents. If baby wakes up, I will swaddle him/her to help them relax.

I also use a susher to help baby sleep. So imagine how peaceful, relaxing and gentle it will be :)

Prepare to be present

mum and daughter having a cuddle with eyes closed

There are very few times in life when we are completely switched off from the outside world and totally present - make this time one of those. Take this time to breathe each other in, be present and remember why you are doing this. You are capturing precious memories you will cherish forever and making your baby feel loved and adored. No expectations, no worries about the end result, pick your outfit and relax - I will handle the rest.

We will create emotions

To show emotions & connections on the photos, I will pose you very close to each other during family photos. Touching each other is the best way to create connection, like forehead against forehead, or Mum resting her head on her partner's chest while he/she is holding baby. I will either ask you to look at baby or look at each other (and sometimes at my lenses, but that’s the photo for the grand-parents!). So be prepared to be all squishy !
