5 tips for a successful Maternity photoshoot
How to prepare for your Maternity Photoshoot ?
Hi Mama! You have booked your Maternity photoshoot with me ( or you are thinking about it), and now you are wondering what’s next ?
What should I wear ? Will I know how to pose ? When is the best time ?
Take a deep breath Mama, I’ve got you !
Maternity photoshoot are not about perfection ( well none of my sessions are anyway). They are about capturing you in this season of your life. Because we are made of so many versions of ourselves as we age and as we go through experiences in life.
Here are a few gentle tips on how to feel confident, relaxed, and fully present during your session.
1/ Find the right photographer for you
Choosing the right photographer for you is probably the most important step in all of it. You want to find someone you resonate with. Someone who share your value and someone who you love their style of editing. Every photographer is different, whether they capture your memories in a studio or outside, if they have a client wardrobe to offer and which is aligned with their vibe and if they already have a portfolio that you love.
The experience they will offer to you is the key to how you will feel about your photos. Ultimately when you will look at your photos, you will remember this exact moment and how you felt. So focusing on the value that you get out of your session in crucial. I am not talking about the price but everything else that you get from it.
2/ Book your session for between 33 to 38 weeks pregnancy
This is often the sweet spot to get a nice bumpy and round bump. If you like a smaller bump, we can do it earlier too, you will probably feel even better and not too uncomfortable.
If you are expecting twins, I would target a session between 28 to 32 weeks.
3/ Keep it simple with hair and make-up
You don’t need to go glam, unless that is your style. A light touch of natural make-up, soft wavy hair are all you need. The goal is to feel like yourself - just a little bit polished !
4/ Wear something you feel good in
Soft, flowy dresses always photographed very well, especially in natural light. Choose fabrics that move with you and colours that compliments your skin tones. I always recommend neutral colours like white, beige, cream, ecru, brown. Earthy colours are my vibes and make your photos timeless.
5/ Don’t stress about posing - I will guide you
Now that you have done all the research and now what you want, it’s time to trust your photographer for your photoshoot day. You don’t need to know how to pose or perform.
I will gently guide you every steps of the way, so you feel comfortable, natural and relaxed.
The most beautiful maternity photos aren’t about what you wear or how you pose — they’re about how you feel in that moment. My job is to help you slow down, feel held, and create space for the love and anticipation already written all over you.
